Brittany Fella, LMFT and PPS
Marriage and Family Therapist # 92791
"I feel honored to guide children and teens towards more fulfilling family interactions, healthier relationships with peers, and greater focus towards their goals. My story of becoming a therapist began with my own personal development journey, so I am fondly aware with how special this relationship can be.
I began my journey working as a therapist in the school setting. In collaborating with school administration, I led interactive process groups focused on issues such as respectful communication, perspective taking, and avenues for healthy self-expression.
I am especially skilled in working with family dynamics that have led to defiance, and overall discord. I can explain things to your child, with you present, in a way that your child can hear them. In turn, I will support your child in taking risks to communicate their feelings to you. I will work to support your child to develop a healthy interdependent identity; one that allows them to be themselves, but also integrates those that love them the most.
If your child is experiencing disconnection, frustration and seems overwhelmed; I can help. If they are seeking out unhealthy ways to function that mask their feelings, such as substance abuse, or self-harm, I will work with a team of professionals to make sure we are assisting your child on all levels.
If you have a younger child, and they express their frustration by fighting you on limits set, are unable to play fairly and have frequent tantrums, I will help you figure out what their behavior is communicating, and find effective strategies to support big feelings.
I have spent thousands of hours working with children and families and many more thousands of hours learning, reading, and studying. In addition to private practice, I also work as an intake coordinator and supervisor of behavioral specialists at Five Acres. Since completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and School Counseling from Phillips Graduate Institute 8 years ago, I have gone on to work at an 80 bed residential facility for foster youth, a psychiatric hospital, and a continuation school in Malibu. I work from an attachment perspective, and believe that when we are fully known, loved, connected and accepted we can be our best selves.
I am originally from Orange County and decided to move to Los Angeles to follow my love for city life. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family and friends, helping out with my niece and nephew, CrossFit, camping and shopping. I believe that true, lasting change happens in the context of trusting relationship with another person, and that is what I hope to gain with all my clients."
